Greenville Pickens will be not run anymore races as a paved oval track. The owners have decided to make a dirt track at Greenville.

It was a beautiful day in Greenville and Thad Moffitt finished 3rd and team-mate Lexi Gay finishing 5th.

Great day for this budding team Empire Racing/Grumpy’s Performance with 2 cars in the top 5. “Proud of these guys! Thanks everyone for all the support”, Grumpy said.

Next adventure will be the rained out LOR race in Indy for the Shore Lunch ARCA race October 6th.

Empire Racing Group Purchases Mason Mitchell Motorsports

Mooresville, North Carolina – August 8^th, 2018-Mike “Grumpy” Cheek, VP and Competition Director for Empire Racing Group confirmed Monday that ERG has purchased the operating assets of Mason Mitchell Motorsports, (MMM).

Mason Mitchell, the 2014 ARCA Racing Series Champion and owner of Mason Mitchell Motorsports, made the very difficult and emotional decision to cease operation and to sale the team’s assets last week.

“Mitchell has been a long-time friend of ERG. I have watch him grow with his team into a Champion within the ARCA Racing Series, Cheek said.”

When asked how Mitchell came about the decision to cease operations, “I guess this is meant to be”, said Mitchell. “For me, I need to get back home and regroup. Perhaps at some point in time, I can get back into the racing arena. But, for now rest and relaxation is greatly needed.”

With the purchase of MMM, this will allow ERG to take their small, budding team to the next level of performance and remain strong in a very competitive industry within the ARCA racing series.

“Things work out for a reason”, Cheek said. Cheek had been in talks with John Corr about switching manufacturers over from Ford to Chevrolet. Corr, who is the owner of ERG, had been wanting to switch for some time now. “Switching over to Chevrolet will help to strengthen ERG’s alliance with Richard Petty Motorsports, (RPM).

“Since 2016, ERG has been partners with RPM as a development team and with the purchase of MMM’s operating assets just makes good sense. Mitchell has some fast-hot rods and I am happy that now all our fleet will be Chevrolet,” Cheek said.

In Addition to acquiring MMM’s operation assets, ERG has also hired some key personnel, starting with veteran crew chief Jeff McClure. “McClure brings a wealth of knowledge to Empire and I am excited that he is in our camp,” Cheek said.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 20, 2018) – Thad Moffitt and the No. 46 Empire Racing team finished 10th in Sunday’s Menards 200 at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway in the ARCA Racing Series.  Moffitt overcame a spin on older tires to climb back to earn his first Top-10 in the series in only his sixth start.

As other drivers had tire problems, Moffitt got fresh General Tires after his spin and settled into his own pace. Moffitt became faster as the race came to a close and climbed the scoring pylon to finish 10th.

“I hate that we spun and lost a few laps, but everyone was having issues,” said Moffitt. “I think it helped us. We were able to just race our own race and things came back to us.”

Moffitt had a previous best finish of 11th in the ARCA Racing Series at the short track in Indianapolis.  He now has his first Top-10 and is looking forward to more ARCA Racing Series starts on short and intermediate tracks.

“I’m 17, so I can’t run every track,” commented Moffitt.  “But, we can run Pocono and that’s going to be our first start on a big track.  Today really gives us a lot of confidence as we prepare for my Pocono debut.”

Moffitt, the 2016 Southeast Limited Late Model Champion from Trinity, North Carolina, is the son of Brian and Rebecca Petty-Moffitt. He started racing a go-kart and a quarter midget before moving to a Limited Late Model and now a Late Model and the ARCA Racing Series. A high school student, Moffitt grew up going to the track with his grandfather (“The King” Richard Petty) and also watching his uncle, Kyle Petty, race.
